The Fellows & Stewart shipyard operated in Los Angeles Harbor, USA for over 70 years until its closing in 1967. The company designed, built, and repaired yachts, both sail and power, as well as workboats and military vessels. Fellows & Stewart built PT boats in WW II. They switched to yacht and workboats close to the time this boat was built.

This vessel is built to a design for a heavily-built, double-ended trawler style twin-screw motor vessel designed for local or long distance ocean cruising. The original design drawn by Master Naval Architect William Garden (referred to as the "Frank Lloyd Wright" of Naval Architects) is a vessel with almost unlimited range. The owner wanted to voyage to the Galapagos Islands with his family and two crew non-stop. Because of this, the original name of the vessel was BEAGLE in honor of Darwin's vessel of discovery.

She has a functional layout on deck with a large aft deck area for dining or relaxing, wide, secure side decks, a large foredeck with a hydraulic windlass and a scuttle hatch to access the forward cabins from on deck. On both starboard and port sides midships there are ladders up to the upper deck that has lots of room for relaxing, storing tenders/kayaks/paddleboards and forward is the flybridge with excellent visibility in all directions. The flybridge has two comfortable captain’s chairs, full navigation electronics and a bimini top (new 2018) for shade or rain protection. On top is a large aft sundeck with robust railings (new in 2021) to accommodate a large number of guests in wooden chairs. There is new canvas (2018) to protect the entire flybridge area when not in use.

Survey notes on construction:
- Hull material : 2" x 5" Douglas Fir vertical grain fir planking, most planks are 58' long;
- Hull Fastenings : 3”- 4” Galvanized iron square shaft spikes;
- Hull Color : White;
- Deck Material : Douglas Fir planking on Fir deck beams;
- Frames : 2 ½” x 2” steam bent Oak, 12”-14” center;
- Big ship-worthy cleats and hawseholes for anchor and line tending;
- The fuel and water tanks are steel;
- Holding tanks (new in 2018, material is poly) two (2) 50 gallon capacity each;
- Owner removed all varnish and has used Deks Olje penetrating oil finish system. Maintenance is simply scrub clean and coat twice a year. Finish is on both brightwork and decks;
- Lazarette has a large raised scuttle for access, with two flush hatches for large items. The lazarette space is massive.

Waterline Boats / Boatshed does not independently verify capacities and measures, which are reported from seller-provided information and/or literature.

The interior can be accessed from four different areas: the scuttle hatch forward, either of the two wheelhouse doors or through the aft deck companionway access door.

Entering the vessel through the aft deck companionway door takes you into the main salon which has a large L-shaped settee, a comfortable upholstered chair to port, and book shelves and cabinets for storage as well as many windows for natural lighting. The interior lighting in the forepeak, forward hallway, broom closet and pantry is set up on motion sensitive sensors to light up areas for safety and convenience. The salon lighting has dimmers and USB chargers on receptacles.

Forward of the main salon is the L-shaped galley with lots of counter space, a galley stove, oven, sink with pressure hot and cold water, dishwasher, refrigerator and lots of cabinets and drawers for storage. There is also a deep freezer in the lazarette for extra food storage.

Descending a curved stairway in the starboard aft corner of
the main salon takes you down to the master stateroom with a single berth immediately at the bottom of the stairs, head compartment with a stall shower, VacuFlush toilet, and a large double berth. There is also a combination washer/dryer in the master cabin under the double berth.

The engine room is accessed either from the master stateroom going forward through a large noise-insulated door or from a forward stair well. The engine room is large, brightly lit and well organized, and has twin John Deere Lugger diesel engines, a Northern Lights 8KW generator, and a Hurricane II hydronic diesel heater that sends hot water to radiators in every compartment throughout the vessel.

Forward from the galley and main salon in the center of the vessel you go down a stairway to the sleeping cabins. Immediately to port at the bottom of the stairway is the first cabin that has two single bunks and storage. Directly across from this cabin is another head compartment and VacuFlush toilet.

Continuing forward is the second cabin that also has two single bunks and lots of storage. Moving forward through another doorway takes you into the third cabin that again has two single bunks and an access ladder to the scuttle hatch on deck. Forward of this cabin is the third head compartment with a VacuFlush Toilet, stall shower.

An automatic light illuminates the well-lit pantry located just off of the galley as you descend the stairs to the forward cabin.

Back on the main deck, going from the main salon and galley forward on the starboard side takes you down a short hallway up to the wheelhouse helm. This has two opening doors to access the deck area, a long upholstered settee, a full electronics package, the 12 VDC electrical panel and battery, tank capacity and bilge high-water alarm panels. Two (2) Tankwatch monitors for the holding tanks, the Hurricane II hydronic heater controls, the Northern Lights generator start/stop and gauge panel, and the Xantrax inverter/charger control and monitor panel are all found in the wheelhouse. The control panels for the main engines/reduction gears are mounted here as well. Also, the video screen for the engine room and deck monitoring cameras (cameras currently not operational), and lots of storage in drawers and cabinets.

The aft lazarette can be accessed either from lifting deck floorboards
from the aft deck or through a raised scuttle hatch with access ladder. The lazarette houses the rudder post, hydraulic steering gear and autopilot arm, autopilot, Xantrex inverter/charger, freezer, hot water heater and the large (8) battery 6 VDC house battery bank. There is also lots of room for storing maintenance supplies and equipment onboard.

Accommodation features include:
- Galley has hot water loop for instant continuous hot water;
- 3 burner propane stove top;
- 12 V gas on/off switch at stove;
- Twin propane bottles located on flying bridge;
- Twin refrigerators in galley;
- Washer/Dryer new 5/2025;
- Hydronic heat heats the bilge as well.

Comentario del broker

It is not very often that a vessel with this much prestige and provenance comes on the market.

Here we have a vessel custom-designed by the legendary Naval Architect William Garden and built by the famous Fellows And Stewart boat yard on Terminal Island, San Pedro, CA. This is a true expedition boat with its calculated range of over 4,700 nautical miles from its 3,000 gallon fuel capacity. It is highly unlikely that a wooden vessel of equal characteristics could be built today, as many of the hull planks are a full 58' long. At the waterline and just above and below is "ice shielding," exterior planking (making the hull about 6" thick because on the interior, there is a band of ceiling planks to mirror the "ice shielding").

With the three double private cabins forward and being a US-built hull, there is the opportunity to offer year-round commercial charters - Mexico in the winter, and Alaska in the summer months.

Besides being a heritage vessel in construction, the engines, electrical and mechanical systems, navigation equipment, and interior features have all been upgraded. The pride of ownership in care and maintenance shows well at first appearance and the deeper you go in discovery of this exceptional true voyaging motor yacht.

There is so much more to say about this outstanding ship. Contact me for more information and to schedule a personal viewing at your earliest convenience.
