Triune of Troy
As featured in September's (2015) PBO magazine, Classic Boat November 2006, Laurent Giles: Evolution of Yacht Design and in the Yachtsman's Annual Who's Who 1938-39, this classic Laurent Giles design, a Channel class offshore cruiser racer, is beautiful, powerful and timeless.
The current owners, who have lovingly cared for and constantly improved her over their 24 years of ownership, have regularly attended and raced in classic yacht regattas, including that of Plymouth, Fowey and Falmouth. They have also tried to spend two weeks annually in Brittany, where in 2013 she won her class in the classic yacht regatta. Quote from Peter Poland in September’s 2015 PBO magazine. "In 2013, I watched her powering through a heavy swell on the CRAB Race off the Ile de Brehat - a sight to behold.”
There is an extensive list of the work that has been carried out in this last ownership, some of which includes: a cockpit rebuild, the deck has been rebuilt and replaced with 2 layers of 9mm plywood & then epoxy sheathed, fastenings have been replaced in silicon bronze, as has the rudder stock, the hull has been fully re-caulked, the heavy bronze strap floors under the mast step have been replaced as has most of the other strap floors, where needed in fabricated galvanised steel. Her engine has been replaced with a 28p Beta diesel, a new self stowing chain locker fitted, and winches, instruments, electrics, cooker and sea toilet all replaced.
Built by Moody's on the Hamble, she has enjoyed an impressive and interesting list of owners including:
Lord Russell: lawyer & author involved in the War Crimes Commission (WWII)
Dr RC Evans: who introduced oxygen for the successful ascent of Everest.
Chris Elliot: Captain of an Antarctic supply vessel, sister to the Endurance.
Hammond Innes: famous author, experienced yachtsman and benefactor to ASTA the Associaton of Sea Training Organisations. He and his wife Dorothy, an author in her own right, both travelled and raced in her. The dedication to one of his famous books, The Wreck of the Mary Deare, which later became a film, was to the crew of this Yacht.
Quote from the Yachtsman's Annual Who's Who 1938-39, 'She was stiff, extremely handy and light on the helm under all conditions, close hauled, reaching and running.'
This cracking classic is in need of a caring owner to take her on new adventures. Please contact us if you have the dedication and passion to do this.
